Veterinarian Technician
Animal Health & Records
Job Description
Animal Health & Records duties include monitoring animal health and keeping vital records of all animals at the facility. This position is under the direction of Shelter Veterinarian and Shelter Foreman.
Responsibilities
Oversees all aspects of health care for the animals at the shelter:
Performing an initial examination of the animals
Taking vital signs, drawing blood and gathering medical histories.
Providing emergency first aid.
Preparing animals and equipment for surgical procedures.
Administering medications and vaccines prescribed by a veterinarian.
Taking and processing x-rays.
Educating animal owners.
Notifies the veterinarian of animal emergencies.
Provides physical assistance to the veterinarian during all veterinarian visits to the shelter, including taking notes of the veterinarian's diagnosis and treatment plans.
Administer medications as prescribed by the veterinarian, including IV, IM, Oral and provide any treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
Oversees all aspects of horse housing, vet services, and handling at shelter.
Organizes, maintains and inventories all vaccinations and other aspects of equine health.
Ensures height and weight are accurately assessed and recorded.
Assists in administering medications of all types, including deworming, delousing, vaccinations, microchipping, electrolytes & probiotics, tagging, and any other
Microchip, deworm, and vaccinate if they pass initial intake and are cleared for the
adoptable program.
Farrier Days
Develop, implement and maintain a farrier schedule for horses that need hoof care.
Records for Farrier.
Prior to the farrier arrival, provide a list of the horses needing hoof care to the Shelter Foreman so the horses will be ready when the farrier arrives.
Veterinarian Days
Create and provide a list of animals needing veterinarian care to the Shelter Foreman so the animals will be ready when the veterinarian arrives.
Prior to the veterinarian’s arrival, catch the horses that are scheduled.
Hold the horse for the veterinarian if needed.
Communicate health concerns with the veterinarian.
Record notes of treatment plans for animals.
Responsible for detailed record keeping of all animals at the shelter.
Maintaining up to date animal records.
Assigning animal ID numbers and taking photographs of animals and filing them.
Records of doctors note
Detailed notes of medication records for each animal

Assist Shelter Foreman with health and animal management related task
Organizes, maintains and inventories all medications and vaccinations:
Develops, implements, and maintains medication and vaccination inventory, and responsible for purchasing needed medication and vaccinations to ensure an adequate supply of medication and vaccinations.
Organizes Medication Room, including organizing in a logical way.
Ensuring that the veterinarian facility of the shelter is well-maintained and equipment is kept in good order.

Shelter Veterinarian
Job Function: Veterinarian - Mixed Practice Animal Shelter with focus on Horses.
Job Type: Full-Time
Minimum Education: DVM/VMD
Salary: $80,000-$120,000 based on experience
Essential Job Functions:
Provides medical and surgical care, treatment and sterilizations to sheltered animals
Aids in development and implementation of cleaning, vaccination, intake, and quarantine protocols.
Have the ability to understand when humane euthanasia is the best option for the quality of life of the animal and perform humane euthanasia (Last Act of Kindness)
Communicates with applicable staff with regard to care of all shelter animals
Works with medical staff to maintain medical inventory, compliance with DEA requirements related to controlled substances, and offers qualified expertise on the appropriate selection of medical supplies.
The main focus will be Equine Veterinary Medicine but will also need to be able to work on other species such as canine, feline, bovine, caprine, ovine, avian and more.
Treats people and animals with respect and contributes to effective teamwork
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA accredited institution. Must be a Licensed Veterinarian in the state of Tennessee, or have the ability to acquire licensing prior to onboarding.
Ability to examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment for a variety of injuries and illnesses in horses as well as other farm animals, dogs and cats.
Provide support and guidance to all shelter staff to ensure accurate medical understanding and treatment of animals
Interest in keeping up-to-date on latest veterinary and shelter medicine trends a plus
Interact with veterinary professionals, the public and HPHS staff members with respect and patience
Have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal direction
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

Adoption Specialist
Job Description
Coordinates with Head Trainer and Application Liaison to match animals with approved applicants and to introduce animals to their potential adopter. The adoption specialist is also responsible for managing and maintaining animal profiles on social media.
Responsibilities
Work with horses prior to the adoption appointment, if feasible 3 days, up to the morning of the appointment.
Post Quarantine Training Evaluation
Take clear, well-composed, photos for the website.
Retrieve horse’s training information and evaluation form and complete listing on Petfinder.
Responsible for posting and networking all available animals on social media platforms.
Match Adoptable Horses with Approved Adopters
Consult with approved adopters via phone call about available horses.
Schedule an appointment to visit the shelter.
Adoption Appointments
If an adopter is interested in the horse matched to them, catch and groom the horse, bathe when needed or weather permits, prior to the adoption appointment.
Greet adopters and dispatch horse handlers.
Introduce horses to the adopter and tell him or her what we know about the horse
Show what the horse does in-hand.
Ride horse for the adopter to see (when trained to ride).
Answer any questions the adopter may have.
Offer for them to ride the horse if they desire; evaluate riding ability and comfort around the horse.
Determine if the horse is a good fit for the adopter.
Have knowledge on all animals that are available for adoption.

Job Description
The receptionist would be responsible for greeting visitors and check in, filling out paperwork for adoptions, responding to emails and Facebook messages for general information, phone calls and other office related duties.
Responsibilities
Answer and direct phone calls in a polite, professional and friendly manner
Welcome visitors in a warm and friendly manner, and answer any questions visitors have
Maintain reception area and all common areas in a clean and tidy manner at all times
Operate standard office equipment on a regular basis, a copy machine, and a computer
Keep detailed and accurate records of visitor requests and of calls received
Receive deliveries; sort and distribute incoming mail
Take inventory of office supplies and restock as needed
Maintain the general office filing system
Moderate and respond to social media posts and messages

Camera and Audio Operator
Job Description
Head videographer for Horse Plus's weekly TV series Horse Shelter Heroes and any other media as directed. Is responsible to film and record audio, of the day to day work at the shelter. Including filming the Vet and Farrier when he comes out, adoptions, and even auction rescues, and any other animal rescue in real time. Maintains cameras & audio equipment and charges batteries. Determines who is to be mic’d, directs interviews, records audio.
Responsibilities
Video
Knows how to operate camera equipment, gimbals, audio and other related camera equipment.
Films all media pertaining to HPHS at the shelter.
works with editors and media director to create the storyline for the day and/or week.
Responsible for being continually on alert and ready to film at any moment.
Checks that camera settings are appropriate for the type of filming being done.
Ensures batteries are charged and ready for use each day.
Cleans camera and other accessories used for filming to optimize performance.
Ensures SD cards have adequate storage for use each day and make sure the editors get all media backed ups.
Audio
Give microphone(s) to key persons for the scene. Ensures microphones are worn properly and turned on. Ensures recording device(s) are recording before the camera operator begins filming.
Replaces and/or recharges batteries of all recording devices and other audio devices to ensure recording equipment is functioning during filming.

Horse Trainer
Job Description
Horse Trainer shall train a variety of horses from known and unknown backgrounds and training levels on a continuous rotating basis, an average of 6-8 horses per day. Each horse will be trained towards the goal of a safe family horse with an emphasis on trail riding ability. Trainer must be knowledgeable and be able to train from the ground up, including, but not limited to, teaching horses to pick up feet, stand calmly while tied, loading onto trailers, accepting a bit, saddling, and riding. Trainer must be knowledgeable and able to train horses in recovery, both physical and mental, from past abuse, mistraining, and misapplication of training methods. Trainer must employ only approved and humane training methods. Trainer must be able to work efficiently and quickly, solo and with a team, and able to keep accurate records of training for each horse. Trainer must be a team player and able to be polite, courteous and professional to coworkers, managers, staff and visitors.
About The Facility
Horse Plus Humane Society is an open admission Full Circle of Life Horse Shelter rescuing and sheltering horses in every stage of life. The facility has multiple barns, a covered training arena, and an indoor round pen. The organization on average shelters 50-80 horses at a time, with 40-50 of those available for training.
